have fun with your own bokeh

Bokeh is a photographic term referring to the area of a picture which is out of focus. it is derived from a Japanese word meaning blur or haze. bokeh can be made in different shapes which is very famous among photographers.

how do you create nice shapes bokeh :

1)tools needed: a piece of black paper , pencil n scissors

2)draw a circle according to your lens cap's diameter n cut it out
so that you can fix it onto your filter or lens
or you can make a lens hoop that wraps around your lens

3)draw your desired shape in the middle of the circle paper


depends on the aperture your lens have and on the focal length you are shooting with
the simple formula will be (focal length / aperture) that you want to use

for example :
canon 50mm f/1.8 lens is used here:
so the diameter will be 50mm/1.8 = 27.78mm
if f/2 is used :
the diameter of the hole will now be 50mm/2 = 25mm
where the '2' is the aperture at f/2 that is used
or if you use a lens with a larger focal length ,
let says 100mm at f/2
then it will be 100mm/2 = 50m
m
*the hole has to be smaller than the calculation value


4)cut out the shape n place it in front of your lens
now u r ready to shoot :)
